About the Adler School:  Founded in 1952, the Adler School of Professional Psychology is the oldest independent school of psychology in North America.  The school offers an APA-accredited clinical psychology program and five Masters degree programs at its Chicago location and a Master of Arts in Counseling at its Vancouver location. As part of its commitment to continue the work of Alfred Adler, the School trains practitioners with demonstrated interest in social justice to work with marginalized and underserved populations.
 
Position Summary:  Responsibilities of the Associate Doctoral Program Director position include working with the Program Director to supervise Core Faculty teaching in the doctoral program; recruit and evaluate adjunct faculty for the doctoral program; provide leadership in implementing and monitoring the effectiveness of the  doctoral curriculum, including a student learning outcome assessment program; proposing  revisions to the curriculum and participating in strategic planning for academic affairs; and assisting Admissions in the recruitment of students. The position does allow for some teaching in areas of interest and expertise, but focus is on administrative duties. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
 
Work schedule: This position requires a four-day contract.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
 
Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Supervise Core and Adjunct faculty members assigned to the doctoral program
  • Work with faculty members to oversee the effectiveness and quality of the doctoral curriculum
  • Assist Program Director in activities related to maintaining APA-accreditation of doctoral program.
  • Oversee annual course scheduling process for doctoral program. 
  • Participate in and support activities pertinent to assessment of student learning, instructional effectiveness, and institutional research. 
  • Collaborate with the Admissions Department in marketing and admissions activities to promote the doctoral program and recruit students of high quality. 
  • Minimal teaching requirements including two seminars and one three-credit course per year.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a Doctorate in Psychology from an APA-accredited program
  • Prior experience in administration/management in higher education, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a capacity to work effectively as part of a management team, and an ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, and professional staff are required.
  • Demonstrate a strong record of clinical experience, graduate level teaching and clinical training using the scholar-practitioner model, and scholarship.
    Illinois license or license-eligible.
  • A particular commitment of the School, rooted in Adler's emphasis on social interest, is training psychologists to work with marginalized and underserved populations and who are committed to social justice. Candidates with particular interest in this mission and with demonstrated experience in these areas are preferred.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check
