The Chicago campus, located at 17 North Dearborn, is in the heart of downtown Chicago and is easily accessible by public transportation. It is also within walking distance of museums, the Theater District, the Magnificent Mile, and Navy Pier, offering a unique qualify of life. Students can also find convenient transportation to clinical training sites in the city and suburbs.
The Chicago campus community begins the 2010-2011 academic year in a
new campus location in the heart of downtown Chicago's Loop. The new
campus provides Adler School students with more than double the amount of
space including 27 classrooms with state-of-the-art AV technology, library
commons with seating for 70 and dedicated space for instructional support,
Mediascape collaborative workspaces, a Wellness Studio for yoga, meditation,
and relaxation, and many other exciting features.
In addition to all the amenities and attractions Chicago has to offer, there are other benefits to students attending a school of psychology in a major metropolitan area. The first is the diversity provided by the residents of the area. Students can experience this diversity not only in their personal lives, but in the large range of practicum sites in which students serve clients. The diversity of Chicago area residents embraces ethnicity, race, class, religion, and sexual orientation and thus offers a richness not found in other settings.
The metropolitan area also provides students with other opportunities that will prove valuable to their personal development and learning experiences. These include world-class universities, teaching hospitals, cultural institutions and museums. Chicago plays host to a large number of professional conferences every year that attract experts and well-known researchers from a wide range of disciplines. Due to its location in the downtown area, the Adler School's campus is near civic, state and federal government offices and headquarters. As a result, greater access to legislators, policy makers and other public officials is afforded for presentations by students and faculty.
Finally, the opportunity to experience the rewards and challenges of a major metropolitan area provides students with insights into many of the issues that confront future client populations. These include poverty, violence, domestic abuse, loss of employment and health issues associated with urban life.
