Dreikurs Training

Internships at the PSC Serve Diverse and Marginalized Populations

Training in cultural and individual diversity is provided for interns throughout the year, on a weekly basis, in the form of individual and group supervision, case conference, and didactic sessions. Training seminars cover various topics including: race, gender, power differences, sexual orientation, religious orientation, biculturalism, bilingualism, age, social class, and disability issues. Consistent with the School's mission of social responsibility, the Dreikurs Psychological Services Center is especially committed to working with marginalized and underrepresented populations.

Program Purpose

The internship program at the Dreikurs Psychological Services Center aims to foster, enhance, promote, and guide professional growth in interns. During the year, interns are provided structured, sequential and cumulative learning experiences. This is designed to prepare them to become competent psychologists who demonstrate the following:

  • Competency in the areas of relationship, assessment, and intervention, and beginning skills in consultation, education and supervision;
  • Individual responsibility, cooperation, and collaboration in working with others and a commitment to contributing to one's social and professional communities;
  • Appreciation and respect for the role of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, religion, age, and other aspects of individual and cultural diversity in professional services provided;
  • An understanding of the importance of disciplined inquiry and the application of the role of the local clinical scientist model to the provision of clinical services; and
