Program Director: Peter Liu, Ph.D.
This Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program is designed to be offered online and in a blended format so as to provide students with a foundation in theories and methods of counseling psychology with hands-on, practical, supervised training in counseling psychology techniques with an emphasis on socially responsible practice.  Graduates of this program are prepared to sit for Professional Counselor licensure in Illinois (LPC) and are well prepared for a wide variety of community mental health positions in human services agencies and organizations in the public and private sector. (Licensure requirements in other states are similar, but specific requirements may vary).

Blended Delivery Format

This program is designed for working professionals and is delivered on a part-time format.  Students have the opportunity to combine the convenience of online coursework with individualized attention through an on-campus requirement three times per year at the Chicago campus. These on-site residencies will typically require students to participate in face-to-face contact with instructors and peers. In addition to coursework, students in this program will be required to complete a community engagement project and 700 hours of supervised clinical practicum. Practicum is scheduled keeping in mind the needs of working students, however, students should plan to devote a minimum of 20 hours per week on weekdays during the terms when they are in their practicum.

Computer Requirements

The online component of this program is accessed through an Internet Browser, running on an IBM PC (Windows or Linux) or Apple Macintosh (Apple OS).  Students will be required to have access to a broadband internet connection and a personal computer manufactured within the last three years.
