The Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program is designed to provide students with a foundation in theories and methods of counseling psychology with hands-on, practical, supervised training in counseling psychology techniques with an emphasis on socially responsible practice. Graduates of this program are prepared to sit for Professional Counselor licensure in Illinois (LPC and LCPC) and are well prepared for a wide variety of community mental health positions in human services agencies and organizations in the public and private sector. (Licensure requirements in other states are similar, but specific requirements may vary.)

Blended Delivery Format
This program is designed for working professionals and is offered on a parttime format. Students will have the opportunity to combine the convenience of online coursework with individualized attention. This program includes an on-campus requirement 2-3 times per year at the Chicago campus. These on-site residencies will typically require students to participate in face-to-face classes that begin Friday morning and run through Monday evening. In addition to coursework, students in this program will be required to complete 700 hours of supervised practicum. Practicum is scheduled keeping in mindthe needs of working students, however; students should plan to devote a minimum of 20 hours per week on weekdays during the terms that practicum is completed.

Computer Requirements
The online component of this program is accessed through an Internet Browser, running on an IBM PC (Windows or Linux) or Apple Macintosh (Apple OS). Students will be required to have access to a broadband internet connection and a personal computer manufactured within the last three years.

  • This program provides a foundation for those who may decide to pursue the Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) degree at the Adler School.

  • Graduates of this program are qualified to sit for the Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) examination in state of Illinois.
  • With additional supervised experience, graduates are eligible to sit for the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPC) examination in the state of Illinois. Licensure requirements in other states are similar, but specific requirements may very.
  • The Dreikurs Psychological Services Center (PSC) provides on-site psychological services to the public and serves as a clinical training site offering an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship program.
