The Community Service Practicum (CSP)

The Community Service Practicum (CSP) training experience has the following objectives:

  1. Learn the effects of systems (healthcare, schools, prison) and social injustices (i.e. poverty, racism, abuse) on individual functioning
  2. Learn the mental health professional's role and responsibility toward initiating systemic changes and addressing injustices
  3. Learn ways to advocate for systemic changes, through policy and legislation, in order to benefit human welfare.

This is a non-clinical practicum designed to give students an overview of social issues. The practicum is supplemented with concurrent academic coursework to assist students in their efforts to integrate what is learned at the CSP with concepts and theories taught in the classroom.
