Parent Education and Training at the Chicago Police Academy

The Adler School of Professional Psychology will be offering a free Parent Education and Training Seminar to all interested members of the Chicago Police Department. The goal of the program is to provide members of the CPD with effective, practical information they can use both at home and when assisting citizens with their various domestic challenges.

Topics to be covered will include:
-
learning how to handle difficult parenting situations such as power struggles
-
developing tools to promote cooperation in the home
-
understanding the purpose and goals of misbehavior
-
developing strategies for modifying problem behaviors such as not listening, fighting among siblings and temper tantrums.
Individuals interested in learning more about the ideas presented in this first seminar will have the opportunity to form smaller groups with others who have children of the same age or others with similar questions and concerns. These small groups will meet with a trained Parent Education Facilitator at a location and time based on the needs and convenience of the members of the small group. Please feel free to organize a group before the first seminar, determine a convenient location for the meetings and contact Victoria Priola Surowiec, PsyD to arrange for a Facilitator to run the group.
