Information for New International Students to the U.S.
Student Visas
Upon acceptance to an Adler School of Professional Psychology degree program, international students may apply for an F-1 (student) or J-1 (exchange student) visa. This process is initiated by returning the required tuition deposit, and the following forms to the Adler School:
Once received, the Office of Admissions will enter your name and biographical information into a computer database called SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) and mail you an original I-20 along with any other documents that may be required. International students will then need to make an appointment with the American embassy in their district if it requires such, and present the I-20 or DS-2019 to the consul.
Prior to the appointment with the Consulate, you MUST complete Form I-901, and submit a fee of $100 to the Department of Homeland Security. There are a number of ways to do this:
You can access the I-901 by downloading it at www.FMJfee.com. When completing the I-901, you must enter your name exactly as it appears on the I-20 or the DS-2019. If you choose to complete the I-901 online, you may pay by Visa, MasterCard or American Express.
Another option of payment for nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors in more than 130 countries is by the Western Union Quick pay service. This option is available in any country where Western Union offers its Quick Pay service. The instructions along with a completed sample of the Western Union form can be found on the SEVP website at www.ice.gov/sevis. Bring a printed copy of the instructions and the sample of the completed Western Union form, to the Western Union Agent in order to correctly process their payments.
Finally, if you elect to submit the I-901 by mail, include a check, international money order or foreign draft (drawn on U.S. banks only) in the amount of $100 USD. Mail the form and the fee to the address listed on the Form 901. The Department of Homeland Security will mail you a receipt within three days of their processing the fee. Be sure to make copies of your receipt and keep it with your other important immigration documents. It is better to pay your SEVIS fee over the internet because it will be processed immediately, and at the time that you make your payment, you will be able to retrieve your receipt directly from your computer. You must pay the fee at least 3 business days prior to applying for your visa, or applying for admission to the at the port of entry if you are exempt from the visa requirement. At this time the SEVIS can only be processed by the Department of Homeland Security via mail or internet. You may not pay the fee at a embassy, Consulate, or at the port of entry.
If you have access to the Web, please consult the U.S. Immigration website at http://uscis.gov. You will find much information regarding visa applications at this website.
