Giving Opportunities

During our 2006 Adler School Commencement exercises, Psy.D. graduate Siepone Mphele was honored with the opportunity to address the graduates and guests. Siepone comes from Botswana where she was born and raised in a rural village called Molepolole. In her commencement address, Dr. Mphele spoke eloquently to the impact Adler School has had in her life and on her professional goals. In Dr. Mphele's own words:

"I believe we came to Alder School for different reasons, but the one reason that I know we have in common is this: we believe we can make a difference in the lives of our fellow human beings."

Dr. Mphele is right. Through education, community engagement and health services, we are transforming individuals and the communities in which they live, but we cannot do it alone. You, too, can make a difference in the lives of our students and in the future impact these students will have in the world.

We all share in the great achievements of Adler School during the past year. A few highlights include:

  • Reshaping the curriculum to incorporate social responsibility into the classroom and student life;
  • Providing more than 160,000 community service hours through social service agencies;
  • Increasing new student applications by 60 percent;
  • Diversifying the student body, which now represents 22 states, Canada, Ghana and Japan;
  • Expanding the budget from $3.6 million to $10 million in the past three years;
  • Presenting the first Outstanding Alumni Award to Jon Carlson, Psy.D., in recognition of his outstanding community leadership and commitment to social justice in the field of psychology.

However, those achievements were just the beginning. We have set impressive goals for the current year including:

  • Building the new Adler Institute on Social Exclusion with new programs that address poverty, breast cancer and HIV;
  • Supporting a new model for faculty to provide excellence in mentoring to all Adler School students;
  • Launching the Adler School community service practicum requirement in all degree programs;
  • Kicking off the Adler School Alumni Association;
  • Beginning the Adler School Annual Fund.

We need your help to make all these goals a reality. Your support as an Annual Fund contributor will preserve academic excellence for students today, tomorrow and for generations to come. Please consider a significant leadership gift today.
