    Leilanii Mesa is a registered yoga teacher, who has studied the practice for 10 years. She enjoys sharing her spiritual, mental and physical transformation with participants. Leilanii uses a gentle yet invigorating approach to relax the mind and body, as well as strengthen the body.

    Yoga will be held in the Wellness Room on the 16th floor. This event is open to all students, faculty, and staff.

    This workshop presents an alternative approach to work with 'trauma', from a decolonizing anti-oppression stance, which focuses on the resistance of victims of violence and oppression, as opposed to attending primarily to the details of the trauma, which can be re-traumatizing for both the client and therapist. The workshop will include lecture and experiential work. This workshop is open to all Adler students, faculty, and alumni, as well as professional counsellors (presuming space is available). At the end of the workshop you will be issued a certificate of completion (this workshop is not for credit). The tuition for the two-day workshop is $410.

    Mark Lecker teaches participants how to be safe in an urban environment. He focuses on protecting yourself using a combination of targeted punches and kicks through a variety of martial arts movements. His practice is defensive not offensive. Mark teaches maneuvers, which will keep you out of harm’s way by blocking an attacker.

  • Common Hour: Introduction to Restorative Justice (+)

    In an era of violence and mass incarceration in Chicago, Restorative Justice is an approach to addressing issues through the healing of communities rather than the punitive measures traditionally employed by the Criminal Justice System. Dr. Elena Quintana, Director of the Institute on Public Safety and Social Justice, will be giving an introductory presentation on the philosophy of Restorative Justice and how IPSSJ is using restorative justice to help deter youth from the Criminal Justice System.

  • Aboriginal Focusing – Oriented Therapy and Complex Trauma Certificate Program (+)

    During this two hour session lead instructor, Shirley Turcotte, RCC, will present a brief overview of Aboriginal Focusing-Oriented Therapy and an introduction to the Aboriginal Focusing – Oriented Therapy and Complex Trauma Certificate Program offered through the Justice Institute of British Columbia.

    Join us at this Open House to learn more about the Adler School Vancouver Campus, the Doctor in Psychology in Clinical Psychology (Psy. D.), the M.A. in Counselling Psychology (MAC), Master of Counselling Psychology (non-thesis MCP), Master of Counselling Psychology: Art Therapy (MCP:AT), and M.A. in Organizational Psychology (MAOP) programs.

    You will have the opportunity to speak with Adler School faculty, staff, and current students. During this session we will also be discussing admission requirements, program descriptions, finances, and answering any other questions you may have for us. Please plan to arrive on time as there will be a brief introduction by the Dean and a question and answer period starting at 1:00pm.
