    Mark Lecker teaches participants how to be safe in an urban environment. He focuses on protecting yourself using a combination of targeted punches and kicks through a variety of martial arts movements. His practice is defensive not offensive. Mark teaches maneuvers, which will keep you out of harm’s way by blocking an attacker.

    Self-defense will be held in the Wellness Room on the 16th floor. This event is open to all students, faculty, and staff.

    Leilanii Mesa is a registered yoga teacher, who has studied the practice for 10 years. She enjoys sharing her spiritual, mental and physical transformation with participants. Leilanii uses a gentle yet invigorating approach to relax the mind and body, as well as strengthen the body.

    Yoga will be held in the Wellness Room on the 16th floor. This event is open to all students, faculty, and staff.

    In an era of violence and mass incarceration in Chicago, Restorative Justice is an approach to addressing issues through the healing of communities rather than the punitive measures traditionally employed by the Criminal Justice System. Dr. Elena Quintana, Director of the Institute on Public Safety and Social Justice, will be giving an introductory presentation on the philosophy of Restorative Justice and how IPSSJ is using restorative justice to help deter youth from the Criminal Justice System.

    Connect with old friends and faculty, congratulate the School’s most recent graduates and celebrate the classes of 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989 at Adler School Reunion 2014.

    Previously known as Homecoming, the annual alumni reception featuring appetizers, cocktails, and live music will take place Saturday, October 18 at the Chicago campus. The Alumni Association Leadership Board will also present its Adler School Outstanding Alumni Awards.

    All Adler School alumni, faculty, students, staff, and community partners are invited to nominate alumni for Outstanding Alumni recognition. These awards are given to alumni who are continuing the Adler School’s mission while making an impact in their communities. We will be seeking nominations for alumni soon.

    The Chicago Theatre



    The 2014 Commencement Ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 19 from 11am-1pm at The Chicago Theatre in downtown Chicago. The keynote speaker will be Laura Washington, a Chicago Sun-Times reporter who specializes in African-American affairs, local and national politics, race and racism issues, and social justice issues. She also serves as a political analyst for ABC-7 Chicago and was formerly the editor and publisher of The Chicago Reporter, a nationally recognized investigative monthly specializing in racial issues and urban affairs.
