    Leilanii Mesa is a registered yoga teacher, who has studied the practice for 10 years. She enjoys sharing her spiritual, mental and physical transformation with participants. Leilanii uses a gentle yet invigorating approach to relax the mind and body, as well as strengthen the body.

    Mark Lecker teaches participants how to be safe in an urban environment. He focuses on protecting yourself using a combination of targeted punches and kicks through a variety of martial arts movements. His practice is defensive not offensive. Mark teaches maneuvers, which will keep you out of harm’s way by blocking an attacker.

  • Common Hour: Integrating Romanian and American Perspectives on Couple and Family Therapy (+)

    the Adler School’s Office of Global Affairs presents Dr. Ileana Ungureanu and her two students John Devin and Megan Molony who just spent three weeks at the Areopagus Institute for Family Therapy (AIFT in Timisoara, Romania this past summer as part of the second iteration of the Adler Global Scholars Program. During this one hour presentation and discussion, Dr. Ungureanu, John, and Megan will discuss the insights gained from their experiences at the AIFT and how the global perspective gained from this experience has contributed to their development as culturally competent and socially responsible practitioners.

  • Bake Sale Benefiting Ronald McDonald House (+)

    Join us for a bake sale benefiting Ronald McDonald House (RMHC-CNI), whose mission is to care for families of children with complex medical needs by providing comfort, compassion and a sense of community. RMHC-CNI keeps families of hospitalized children together in a ‘home away from home’.

    Ronald McDonald Houses provide a ‘home away from home’ to keep families together. The Houses allow families to eat, sleep and find the emotional support they need - just blocks from where their child is being treated. This year they provided over 30,000 nights to families, offering them care and comfort during their hours of greatest need. While a donation of $10 per night is suggested, no family is ever turned away if they are unable to pay.

    Bored with talking heads? Unhappy with disengaged participants? Yearning for learners to "Walk the Talk"? Frustrated with the lack of skill application? Tired of classroom limitations?

    Join The PowerSuasion Players & the Adler School Master of Arts in Counseling and Organizational Psychology program as they present Leadership Nightmare. Come see the POWER of LIVE business theater. The story includes an introduction, presentation, discussion, and audience participation. 

    This event is free, but registration is required. Networking takes place from 1:30-2 p.m. The performance will take place from 2-4 p.m.

    The Story:
    Tom, a stickler for details, manages Diane, who wants to prove that she can work independently and do the job. Tom assigns her a new project: to arrange the marketing conference. Excited and enthusiastic, Diane goes to work, but finds that her boss's management style creates problems for her.

    Meanwhile, Diane's colleague, Bill, has Phyllis, his manager, to contend with. Phyllis sees herself as an empowering manager practicing the latest in managerial styles. Overwhelmed by Phyllis's enthusiasm, Bill struggles to steer a path while making sure that his own nightmare doesn't come true. As tensions mount, Tom and Diane finally confront each other, only to discover a new understanding.

  • Common Hour: Pilsen and Little Village Health Impact Assessment (+)

    The Institute on Social Exclusion (ISE) will host a program to inform the Adler community about their work for the past year in Pilsen and Little Village. During this event, the ISE will discuss our findings and the health impacts of increased access to open space in Pilsen and Little Village, specifically around the Fisk and Crawford coal plants that closed in 2012. Come and join in on the conversation of how the ISE was able to receive input from community residents that are typically excluded from the decision making process. Refreshments will be provided.
