  • Adler School Annual School Retreat (+)

    The Adler School of Professional Psychology invites all alumni to attend our Annual School Retreat on Wednesday, March 26 from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Goodman Theatre. The interactive retreat will focus on deepening our understanding of socially-responsible practice through multiple exercises and activities. Lunch will be provided. 

    The Adler Student Government, Feed the Need, and Jewish Student Association, in partnership with the Office of Academic Affairs, are pleased to announce a special opportunity for all attendees of the Adler School Retreat.  Please join us for a simulation on social exclusion during the lunch break!  This is not the social exclusion simulation hosted by the Institute on Social Exclusion, but is a great opportunity to experience first-hand the struggles that many of our clients experience daily.  Space is limited to the first 100 people, so please RSVP as soon as possible as participation is on a first come first serve basisIf you have any questions about the simulation, please contact Kevin Goldberg at kgoldberg@my.adler.edu

    Practicum and clinical field experience allows students supervised, real-world learning in a professional setting. Join us for a workshop tailored expressly for Adler School students by CTC Coaching and Program Director Laura Sterkel.

    During this workshop you will learn how to:

    • Utilize the student learning experience to serve your future career goals.
    • Gain insight from ‘real life’ examples and expand your awareness of professional expectations in the field.  
    • Develop a professional network that will serve you throughout your career.

    There will also be discussion on how to gain clarity in career direction, identify personal values, and how to promote yourself to a potential employer.

    Laura Sterkel a seasoned performance and leadership coach who helps organizations, business and community leaders enhance their purpose and reach their potential.She co-founded Chicago Financial Women and has served as a mentor for Menttium Corporation supporting the careers of rising-star women leaders for over a decade. Laura is Director, Programs & Coaching at Career Transitions Center of Chicago.

    The Adler Child & Adolescent Student Association presents an alumni panel to discuss careers in child and adolescent psychology.  Students and alumni will get an idea of what to expect in transitioning to a position in the field as well as ideas on future career possibilities and opportunities.

  • The Best Networkers Get the Job (+)

    More than half of psychologists are independent practitioners, according to the American Psychological Association.  Are you an entrepreneur? What might a career look like if you combined several areas of work?  Teaching, consulting with nonprofits and corporations, coaching, conducting forensic assessments, substance abuse evaluations and psychological evaluations for obesity and other treatment programs, etc.

    At this interactive workshop, participants will connect with one another, examine where and how to look for opportunities as well as how to create and sustain an active, expanding professional community. the workshop will be presented by CTC coach, Robert Gramillano who has experience as an executive coach, consultant, workshop leader and more.

    The Adler School Alumni Board is pleased to sponsor professional development workshops to offset costs associated with this valuable resource.  For alumni, registration is $10, which covers the workshop and includes a $5 gift to the Adler School Scholarship Fund. For current Adler School students, registration is free but registration must be completed in advance.

  • Global Perspectives on Career Paths for Psychologists (+)

    Dr. Chris Stout will be discussing career paths and local opportunities for psychology-grounded students, alumni, and faculty from a global perspective. He will discuss models that psychologists have used at the United Nations to the use of psychological principles in policy development and sustainability. He will also share real-world stories from innovative non-profits that are meant to open new perspectives, ideas and approaches that attendees may learn from and adapt to their interests and professional endeavors. Dr. Stout will conclude with a number of tools and resources that will be made available to attendees and be available for questions and discussion.

  • Life After Adler: Debt and Loan Repayment (+)

    A panel of recent Adler School graduates discuss their personal experiences in dealing with debt and loan repayment post-graduation. Patrick Well's of the Adler School Office of Financial Aid will complete the event by providing tips and strategies on how to manage debt and loan repayment.

    The panelists are:

    Jon Rosenfield, MAC '11. Jon currently works as a career counselor for Loyola University Chicago, and has recently consolidated and negotiated his loan debt.

    Nadia Jackson, Psy.D. '03. Nadia currently works at Haymarket Center and is starting a private practice. A number of her loans were
    private, providing an interesting perspective. Additionally, she can speak to the extraordinary efforts some graduates have to make to repay loans.
     

    Angela Adams Ali M.A.F. '09. Angela has a BBA in finance and worked in the corproate sector before pursing her master's degree at the Adler School. She is also completing her Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology, and is in the process of starting her own consulting business.
