Adler doctoral students Lindsay Johnson and Trisha Iannotta graduate student Poster Presentation at the 2009 Annual Convention of the Illinois Psychological Association (IPA) was selected for the award in the category of ""Social Responsibility"". The title of their Poster Presentation was ""Diversion vs. Incarceration in the Juvenile Justice System"". This was their Community Service Practicum project which they completed last year at the Will County Health Department in the Division of Behavioral Health Programs. They examined the negative impact of incarcerating juveniles and reviewed models of alternatives to incarceration. The results of their work were integrated into a 'white paper' and accompanying research binder. In addition, they developed a power-point executive briefing on their findings. This material was presented to the Will County Juvenile Justice Council in a successful effort to move towards seeking alternatives to the incarceration of juveniles. As a result of their efforts, public policy in Will County is moving towards the development of diversion programs for juveniles. |
