Mark Bilkey, ASAA Board President (Psy.D., '97)

Mark Bilkey, Psy.D., earned his Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Resources from Wayne State University, and Master of Arts in Counseling and Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. His specialization is in Gerontological Psychology, and he has focused his service on the needs of older adults for the last twenty years. He has completed extensive training at the Center for Healthy Aging in Santa Monica California, instructed at California State University San Bernardino, consulted for assisted living centers, and maintained a private practice in the Palm Springs regional area. He has presented nationally and internationally on innovative group facilitation, Adlerian interventions and counseling, structured reminiscence, LGBTQ issues, wellness and healthy coping strategies, and older adult peer counseling. Dr. Bilkey currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Counseling Department and is the future Faculty Chair of 2011–2012 Academic Year.

Vilija Ball (Psy.D., '09)

Vilija Ball was selected by the Adler School to deliver the commencement speech to Class of 2009. Following graduation, Vilija began working at Allendale Association where she collaborated with a large interdisciplinary team inside and outside the agency to coordinate and manage the mental health needs of clients. Prior to earning her Psy.D., Vilija was a Rehabilitation Services Coordinator at Maplewood Care in Elgin, where she cared for individuals with mental illnesses. Dr. Ball believes that research and psychoeducation serve a very important role in all communities and societies as well as training and mentoring a new generation of competent clinicians. Recently, she presented on “Forgiveness and Abuse Survivors,” based upon her dissertation, at the annual conference of the Midwestern Psychological Association.

Vilija Ball earned a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. in Sociology from Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania. She now serves as adjunct faculty with the Adler School, where she has taught Structural and Systemic Bases of Health and Dysfunction, Theories of Psychotherapy, andBio-psychosocial Bases of Health and Dysfunction. 

Laura Benoit (MAO, '11)

Tim Devitt (Psy.D., '06)

Tim Devitt has worked in a various capacities over the past 22 years with people who have co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders. Currently, he consults Thresholds Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centers in Chicago with implementation of evidence-based practice, Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment, and serves as a lead clinician for quit-smoking research studies being conducted in partnership with the Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center. He was a contractual trainer/consultant for the final year of the SAMHSA-funded Illinois Department of Mental Health IDDT Implementation Project. Tim was the start-up program director for Thresholds Grais Apartments, a 44-unit residential program that was a 2004 recipient of the APA's Silver Achievement Award. Tim holds a Psy.D. from the Adler School and M.Ed. and B.A. degrees from the University of Dayton. He is a licensed clinical professional counselor and certified alcohol and drug counselor. He has coauthored papers in professional journals and presented at local and national conferences on topics related to co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders, and is a member of the International Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.

Jolene Harbaugh (Psy.D. '99)

Dr. Jolene Harbaugh is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Illinois College and her Master’s in Counseling and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. She has spent her years since graduation working within the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice. She served as the Treatment Administrator at the Illinois Youth Center-St. Charles which is a minimum and medium security facility for adjudicated males, aged 13-20. Currently, she is the Treatment Administrator at the Illinois Youth Center-Warrenville which is a minimum, medium, and maximum security facility for adjudicated females, aged 13-20. As the Treatment Administrator, she serves as the supervisor of the mental health staff and ensures the provision of best practice psychotherapeutic services. She also serves as the facility Crisis Team Leader, Hostage Negotiator, DCFS Liaison, and she oversees the clinical training department where numerous psychology students have received quality field experience. 

While she is a practitioner and administrator full-time, she also serves as an adjunct instructor within The Chicago School of Professional Psychology Online Forensic Program. In this capacity, she has taught a variety of courses that enhance an understanding of the pertinent issues in the forensic field. When she is not working, you can find her enjoying time with her recently turned 13 year old son.

Chasidy Karpiuk (MAC '06)

Chasidy Karpiuk, MA, RCC, CCC, CAP is a registered Clinical Counsellor working with mental health issues since 2003. She received her MA in Counselling Psychology from the Alder School of Professional Psychology in Vancouver and has an private associate practice in North Vancouver, BC. (www.buildingstrength.ca). Chasidy also enjoys facilitating groups and works actively to teach other counsellors how to start their own Successful Private Practice. She primarily works with adults and youth in areas including: parenting, addictions, relationships, goal setting, anxiety, depression, self-esteem and stress reduction. Chasidy also enjoys facilitating groups and works actively to teach other counsellors how to start a successful private practice.

Nicole Maier (Vancouver)

Louis Martinez (MAP '10)

Louis Martinez recently completed my 19^th year with the Chicago Police Department. He is trained in the Chicago Police Department Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) which focuses on seeking alternative treatment to incarceration when dealing with persons with mental illness. Louis has also worked as a police officer in Chicago’s Department of Aviation, and prior to that was a correctional officer in Joliet correctional center where he supervised and worked to rehabilitate maximum security inmates. Officer Martinez is also a veteran of the U.S. Army. 

Currently, Louis is serving his second term as president of the Illinois Academy of Criminology and has been an adjunct professor at Elmhurst College where he teaches an undergraduate course in criminal justice. He is the author “The Secret Deaths: Police Officer’s Testimonial Views on Police Suicides and Why Suicides Continue to Be Hidden in Police Departments,” and has presented his book’s findings at  the Midwest Police & Security Conference on police suicides. Louis also writes for a police magazine on police training and procedures. He is on the editorial board for The Journal of Police Negotiations. 

Louis earned a Master’s degree from Loyola University in Criminal Justice Administration and a Masters in Police Psychology from the Adler School (10’). The School selected him as the 2011 recipient of the Bill Powers Award for Police Psychology.  

Lori Newell (Vancouver)

Jason Reatherford, ASAA Board Treasurer (MAO '11)

Jason Reatherford is a veteran of the United States Air Force who completed his MA in organizational psychology and counseling in 2011. Jason participated in a community service practicum at the Cathedral Shelter of Chicago where he provided guidance for the development of an on-site art therapy center. Jason’s participated in a clinical practicum at Habilitative Systems Inc., where he worked in the Chicago Public School system assisting at-risk youth. Jason then completed a business practicum at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Benefits Administration, and now works there full-time as an Employment Coordinator assisting veterans with their employment needs.

Julie Skokna, BSN, RN, Student Representative

Julie Pech Skokna is a student in the MA in Counseling Online Hybrid Program at Adler School having completed one year of the four year program. She is back to school to add psychology to her practice of nursing. Julie received her BSN from Loyola Chicago's Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing and has spent many years raising her large family. She works as a nurse for the Congregation of St. Joseph. She is very pleased to be included on the Alumni Board and excited to be a part of the Adler School.

Adrianne Wright, Co-Secretary, Student Representative

Adrianne Wright is a student in the MA Counseling with a specialization in Forensic Psychology program at the Adler School. Before attending Adler, she received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at Indiana University. Serving as a domestic violence crisis liner for over 3 years, Adrianne enjoyed assisting women and children who had been exposed to domestic violence. Adrianne also has admitted a growing interest in helping the marginalized group of incarcerated individuals.
