Scholarships
Scholarships are a form of gift aid and do not have to be repaid. Scholarships vary in amount and are based on a student's financial need, merit, community involvement, or other criteria.
New Student Scholarships
The Adler School of Professional Psychology (Chicago campus) offers a number of scholarships for incoming students for fall 2012. All applicants who complete their admissions interview are automatically considered for the following scholarships. Due to the limited number of scholarships available, applicants are encouraged to apply for admission as early as possible.
New Student Scholarship Notes
- Applicants who defer admission from the original term of acceptance are ineligible to receive scholarships.
- Scholarships are disbursed toward tuition and fees over two terms. For example, a $10,000 scholarship disburses $5,000 in the fall term and $5,000 in the spring term.
- Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to maintain eligibility for subsequent allocations of their awards.
- Scholarship recipients may be required to attend a scholarship reception or ceremony.
Social Justice Scholarship
Recipients of the Social Justice Scholarship are selected based on their commitment to social justice as demonstrated through either a history of providing community service or an articulated plan to design and implement effective and innovative solutions to a significant social problem. Candidates are reviewed automatically and scholarships are generally awarded at time of acceptance.
Award amount: $10,000 non-renewable
Diversity Scholarship
Recipients of the Diversity Scholarship are selected based on their commitment to diversity as it relates to their interest in psychology. Priority is given to applicants who belong to ethnic, racial, religious, cultural, and sexual identity groups that have traditionally been underrepresented populations in the field of psychology. Candidates are reviewed automatically and scholarships are generally awarded at time of acceptance.

Merit Scholarship
This scholarship is designed to reward incoming students for their excellence in academic achievement. Preference is given to individuals who have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.8 or higher. Candidates are reviewed automatically and scholarships are generally awarded at time of acceptance.

International Student Scholarship
This scholarship is designed to further expand the global impact of The Adler School and is reserved for new students who are citizens of countries other than the United States or Canada. Recipients will be selected on their commitment to social interest and their dedication to improving their local community. Candidates are reviewed automatically and scholarships are generally awarded at time of acceptance.
Award amount: $10,000 non-renewable

Current Student Scholarship Criteria
- Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the Adler School at the time of the application deadline and have completed at least one semester at the Adler School (Chicago campus).
- Scholarships are disbursed toward tuition and fees over two terms.
- Students must maintain satisfactory progress in order to maintain eligibility for subsequent allocations of their awards.
- Scholarship recipients may be required to attend a scholarship reception.
Scholarship Application Instructions and Deadline
To apply for a scholarship, students should submit one of the applications below along with the required written statement between February 1, 2012 and 5:00pm on Monday, May 14, 2012 to Terri Esch, Director of Financial Aid.
Applications can be emailed to financialaid@adler.edu (subject line must include the full name of the scholarship), mailed to the Adler School Office of Financial Aid at 17 N. Dearborn, Chicago, IL 60602, or faxed with a clear cover page to (312) 662-4197.
The Alfred Adler Scholarship
Current Chicago campus students are invited to apply for the Alfred Adler Scholarship. Recipients are selected based on academic performance at the Adler School and a 500-word written statement demonstrating commitment to the Adlerian value of social interest through either a history of or an articulated plan to provide service to their community. Priority is given to applicants who are committed to working with underserved or marginalized populations.
Required materials: scholarship application and 500 word written statement
Award amount: $5,000, disbursed over two terms (Fall 2012 and Spring 2013)

The Seymour Schneider Scholarship
Current students on the Chicago campus are invited to apply for the 2012-2013 Seymour Schneider Scholarship. This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Seymour Schneider, who taught at the Adler School until his death in 1996. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on a 500 word written statement that discusses why Adlerian training is important to you and your interest in actively applying Adlerian principles to real social issues and problems. Scholarship applications are also evaluated based on merit.

The Sadie “Tee” Dreikurs Art Therapy Scholarship
Current Adler School students pursuing an M.A. or Certificate in Art Therapy are invited to apply for the 2012-2013 Sadie “Tee” Dreikurs Art Therapy Scholarship. This scholarship is in memory of Ms. Dreikurs, who established art therapy training at Adler School and taught until her death in 1996. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on a 500 word written statement that discusses why they chose the field of art therapy, and how the training received relates to their future goal. Scholarship applications are also evaluated based on merit.
