Community Mental Health Internship Program Goal

The primary objective of ACHS' American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited Community Mental Health Internship Program is to prepare interns to become clinical psychologists by facilitating pre-doctoral, supervised experience as a practitioner. The program is a collaboration between Adler University and community-based partner sites which provides clinical primary care, residential rehabilitation, transitional support for formerly incarcerated persons, and services to treat presenting mental disorders. Upon completion of the program, interns will have developed proficiency in clinical practice standards, assessment/testing, and consultation to underserved communities.

The Adler Community Mental Health Internship Program at Adler Community Health Services is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), and is a member of the Association of Psychology Post-Doctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC).

Program Outcomes

Upon completion, Community Mental Health Interns are expected to demonstrate:

  • Foundational competence in consultation, assessment, and intervention;
  • Understanding of the application of the local clinical scientist model;
  • Understanding of major psychological theoretical orientations;
  • Understanding of environmental factors that may contribute to overall health;
  • Understanding of the role of diversity; and
  • Commitment to the highest standards of professional ethics.
