Each extern is assigned one supervising psychologist.  The extern will meet one hour per week for supervision with this supervisor.  The extern’s primary supervisor (Preceptor) is responsible for all of the extern’s psychotherapy cases. The psychologist supervisor of a case is the legal and ethical owner of the case.  Externs may seek consultation with another psychologist, but all clinical decisions are the responsibility of the case psychologist supervisor.

The extern should make every effort to audio record therapy sessions.  After the supervisor reviews the recorded session, the extern will erase the session.  Session recordings are only permissible with informed consent.  Digital tape recorders are provided for each extern.

In addition to the assigned supervising psychologist, each extern will meet with an assigned intern supervisor to provide secondary supervision. The intern is also in training for supervision and will receive supervision on supervision by the Director of Training.

Each intern is assigned 1 or 3 externs and is responsible for their extern team’s supervision.  In this context, the intern’s role is threefold: administrative supervisor, peer clinical supervisor, and mentor.
