The LGBTQ Mental Health and Inclusion Center is responsible for overseeing the level of integration and academic excellence of sexual orientation and gender identity programming in all academic programs offered by the Adler School of Professional Psychology. Our mission is to ensure that our curricula are culturally accurate, competent, and inclusive. We strive to identify both deficits and resiliency in clinical issues related to gender and sexual minorities. It is our aim to train students to have a synergistic relationship between their academic knowledge and clinical skills when providing services to the LGBTQ community.
We have an excellent relationship with multiple community agencies that serve the LGBTQ community. Our community partners offer high quality training experiences with gender and sexual minorities.
We are proud to offer an Adler School-exclusive two doctoral internship positions at the Valeo Program at Chicago Lakeshore Hospital. Valeo, a Latin word meaning “I am well”, is an inpatient and intensive outpatient program providing services for severe mental illness, and addiction to a diverse population of the LGBTQ community. Interns will receive comprehensive training on providing clinical care that is both exceptional in quality, and culturally-competent, putting their academic knowledge to practice.
We also offer several continuing education events and community forums at the Adler School focused on gender and sexual minorities. Additionally, we link students to events in the LGBTQ community that allow students to network with other LGBTQ clinicians and agencies providing opportunities for training and employment.
