APA Honors Adler School Leader
with Distinguished Service Award
for Education and Grassroots Advocacy
09.17.11
Wendy Paszkiewicz, Psy.D., Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Adler School of Professional Psychology, has been awarded the Education Advocacy Grassroots Distinguished Service Award by the American Psychology Association (APA) Board of Educational Affairs at its 2011 Education Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.
Paszkiewicz received the honor for “her skill, tenacity, and great enthusiasm” working with regional network members, faculty, campus representatives for the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS), and APA education advocacy staff to expand the Federal Education Advocacy Coordinators (FEDAC) Network.
The FEDAC is a nationwide, campus-based grassroots network for education advocacy that assists the APA Education Directorate and Public Policy/Education staff in its work to gain federal support for psychology education and training.
“I enjoy serving as a grassroots leader and continue to advocate for social change,” Paszkiewicz said. “It is essential for psychologists across the country to become more knowledgable and active in advocacy work in order to have influence on funding, education, and clinical practice issues.
“As a profession, we have not made this a priority; as a result, we have missed out on opportunities for more substantial influence in these areas. I see change happening on this front with more psychologists and students coming to appreciate the value of advocacy training and action, and hope this will continue."
The 10th annual Education Leadership Conference took place Sept. 10 to 13, and bringing together almost 150 representatives of psychology education and training organizations, psychological membership groups, APA divisions and APA governance groups from throughout the nation to focus on interdisciplinary and interprofessional teaching, research, and practice.
