  • Common Hour: Police Brutality in Chicago (+)

    12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
    Chicago Campus, Community Hall

Produced by Community TV Network in 1995, “The End of the Nightstick: Confronting Police Brutality in Chicago” is a video by filmmakers Peter Kuttner, Cyndi Moran, and Eric Scholl about the ongoing abuse of power by the police force, specifically the case of Jon Burge, as well as institutionalized racism. Some of these wrongfully convicted victims have just recently been released from prison and, sadly, this film is still very much relevant today as only the names and faces have changed. With the recent wrongful deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, the media has brought light to the injustices minorities in the U.S. face. Community TV Network has re-released this short film increase awareness surrounding this issue. It is important to bring this video back into the present to demonstrate the unfortunate continuity of the problem and stimulate change.
