  • VA Chaplain Talk (+)

    Military Psychology Student Organization (MPSO) in collaboration with Student Veterans Association (SVA) will be hosting a Military chaplain from the Hines VA that will be coming in to talk about the spiritual experience within the Military. The chaplain has 20 years of service in the Military as a chaplain as well as currently within the VA system and will be talking about his experience in both capacities in the role of a chaplain followed by a Q&A session by the audience.

  • Adlerian Psychology, Leadership, and Organizational Development (+)

    Workshop Summary:

    Adlerian philosophy goes beyond clinical practice and highlights an orientation that can be effectively applied in leadership and organizational development. The presenters will first review Adlerian foundation principles emphasizing the connection to leadership and organizational development overall. They will then highlight 10 years of Adlerian journal articles on applications within organizations. Human capital best practices will also be discussed with an Adlerian lens including recruitment and selection, on-boarding, performance management, employee engagement, retention, and satisfaction, leadership development, and culture management. Innovative approaches to move organizations to the next level will also be reviewed. Finally, a current work challenge will be solicited from participants as a focal point of a discussion on applying Adlerian principles real time in the moment for best outcomes.

    About our Presenters:

    Dr. Jay Colker currently is the Director of the Center for Adlerian Practice and Scholarship at Adler University. He has had three distinct phases of his career: 20 years of clinical work and managing clinical facilities, 21 years of organizational development work as a consultant and as Chief Learning Officer of a multi-billion dollar bank holding company, and finally as a professor and program director at Adler University teaching Adlerian Psychology and managing the Center. In addition to a Master''s Degree in Counseling Psychology, Dr. Colker earned an MBA and a Doctor of Management Degree in Organizational Leadership. Dr. Colker has also consulted internationally and was instrumental in introducing customer service skills to institutions in the Republic of Georgia and Azerbaijan, and has also worked with organizations in Mongolia, Armenia, Israel, and India. Finally, Dr. Colker is founder of Crowdsourced Coaching which engages leaders in collaborative discussions to enhance performance and development.

    Dr. Paul Fitzgerald received his Master's degree and Psy.D. degree from the Adler School of Professional Psychology (now Adler University), Paul also completed the Certificate in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy taught by Arthur Freeman. This program combined Adlerian psychology with Aaron Beck's Cognitive Therapy into an evidence-based form of treatment that remained true to Adlerian principles. He has worked with several Employee Assistance programs including the Federal Occupational Health program and Perspectives EAP, where he became the clinical director. Paul has also been active in the local chapter of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association and continues to serve as Vice President of the chapter. In 2008, Dr. Fitzgerald returned to the Adler School of Professional Psychology as an adjunct faculty member in the Master of Arts in Counseling and Organizational Psychology program. He became a full-time faculty member in that program in 2009, and became Director of Master's Training in 2010. He continues as Director of Training while teaching courses in a number of programs (including a number of the Adlerian psychology courses) and serving as one of the faculty advisory members of the Center for Adlerian Practice and Scholarship. Dr. Fitzgerald currently maintains a private practice in Chicago and Hinsdale, Illinois. He is also a qualified Substance Abuse Professional and works closely with a number of employee assistance programs providing workplace services and substance abuse assessments. He is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, as well as a Certified Employee Assistance Professional.
