  • Social Justice Beyond Our Borders (+)

    10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Chicago Campus, Community Hall (15th Floor)

In this second of three presentations in our "Social Justice Beyond our Borders" series, Calyn Shaw of CBC will present his international reporting experiences in Brazil while pursuing his master-level degree at the University of British Columbia.

A classic example of parachute journalism, which was part of a story for The New York Times, hear about Shaw's group of students who traveled to the indigenous Guarani region of Brazil to investigate a murder and better understand escalating violence over land disputes. The talk will spotlight how Shaw and UBC students chose the story, prepared for the exciting experience from their base in Campo Grande, and overcame limitations to produce a story with tremendous social impact.

Learn more about the role of journalism in the fight for social justice and opportunities to affect change through international reporting.

This event will also be live streamed to the Chicago, Vancouver, and Online Campuses. Participate in this event via Skype here.
