Daily Southtown columnist Phil Kadner interviewed Jennifer Schmidt, Psy.D., staff psychologist for Adler Community Health Services, about the treatment she and Adler students are providing at the Markham Courthouse clinic. Their work is part of a new mental health program provided by Adler University and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

"Jail is not the best environment for a person suffering from mental illness, given the numerous opportunities to get into more trouble there," said Schmidt. "Nor is it a good idea to add people who are suffering from mental illness to the rest of the jail population."
