In addition to coursework, students acquire and develop practical clinical skills through specialized field placements. Because this practicum is an advanced specialty practicum, students typically complete a doctoral therapy practicum in advance. Students should expect to spend ten to twenty hours per week at an approved practicum site while concurrently enrolled in two semesters of practicum seminars. A minimum of 500 total clock hours of practicums is required, which should include at least 250 hours of direct clinical service; one-third or more should be in conjoint therapy with couples or families.
