Viewing an Apartment or Home
|
When you view rental accommodations, remember to check these important features:
- Are there locks on all the doors?
- Do the appliances work? Check the refrigerator and turn on the stove.
- Do the shower and taps work? Turn them on just to be sure.
- Do the walls require new paint? If so, ask the landlord if he/she will paint before you occupy the property.
- Is the carpet clean? Ask the landlord if the carpet will be cleaned or changed before you occupy the property.
- How loud is traffic noise when the windows are open?
- What does the rent include? For example, will you have to pay extra for heat, electricity, cable, laundry facilities, refrigerator, stove, storage or parking?
- Water damage (yellow stains on walls and ceiling), and evidence of cockroaches are very bad signs. Avoid renting suites that have these problems.
