When you view rental accommodations, remember to check these important features:

• Are there locks on all the doors?
• Do the appliances work? Check the refrigerator and turn on the stove.
• Do the shower and taps work? Turn them on just to be sure.
• Do the walls require new paint? If so, ask the landlord if he/she will paint before you occupy the property.
• Is the carpet clean? Ask the landlord if the carpet will be cleaned or changed before you occupy the property.
• How loud is traffic noise when the windows are open?
• What does the rent include? For example, will you have to pay extra for heat, electricity, cable, laundry facilities, refrigerator, stove, storage or parking?
• Water damage (yellow stains on walls and ceiling), and evidence of cockroaches are very bad signs. Avoid renting suites that have these problems.
