Adler University has appointed Michelle Curtain Stewart, Ed.D., as its interim provost, effective Nov. 1. A seasoned higher education leader with more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Stewart joins Adler from the Institute for Clinical Social Work, Psychodynamic Graduate School, where she served as president and CEO. There, she led strategic planning, budgeting, partnership initiatives, academic program growth, and marketing and fundraising efforts.

“I was drawn to Adler University for its alignment with my professional experience in graduate education, and I am eager to bring my expertise in faculty engagement, mentorship, and academic leadership to this interim role,” said Dr. Stewart. “My goal is to help ensure that the University continues to be a place where both faculty and students thrive, supported by intentional resources and opportunities for growth.”
Throughout her career, Dr. Stewart has been dedicated to student success, faculty development, and institutional excellence. She has spearheaded the development of new degrees and curricular changes, expanded information systems and support services for students, launched innovative workforce development programs designed to enhance engagement, and formalized partnerships with nonprofits, corporate, and government agencies. A champion of faculty support and mentorship, Dr. Stewart has developed comprehensive initiatives to promote social cohesion during new faculty transitions. She also leads workshops focused on enhancing faculty excellence, leadership, and professional growth.
Dr. Stewart’s previous roles include serving as vice president of Academic Affairs at Lane College and faculty positions at American Public University, the University of Phoenix, and Indiana University. She received a doctorate in Educational Leadership and a Master of Arts in Sociology from Indiana University Bloomington and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Alcorn State University.
She will work remotely through Friday, Nov. 15 and will be on campus beginning Monday, Nov. 18.
