Richard E. Watts, Ph.D., is Distinguished Professor of Counseling at Sam Houston State University and a Texas State University System Regents’ Professor. A Diplomat in Adlerian Psychology and a Fellow of the American Counseling Association, his areas of expertise include (a) the integration of Adlerian, cognitive-behavioral, constructivist, existential-humanistic, and systemic-ecological perspectives in working with individuals, couples, and groups; (b) the legacy of Adler and Adlerian psychology/therapy; (c) the role of encouragement in counseling and supervision, (d) spiritual, ethical, and religious issues and values in counseling, and (e) using music in counseling.
