Chicago | Healing Beyond Harm Restorative Justice Coordinator
Institute on Public Safety & Social Justice
Christine Weil has worked on a variety of restorative justice initiatives since 2005. Currently, she is the coordinator for Healing Beyond Harm, a program that facilitates workshops in prisons that leads those who are incarcerated to write apology letters to those whom they’ve harmed. Christine also facilitates Harm Dialogues for crime survivors and those who have caused them harm. Christine led Chicago Public Schools in creating the largest restorative justice program in the country. She trained over 100 Chicago-area schools and the entire school district of Syracuse, New York and has worked to remove zero tolerance from discipline codes across the nation. She also created a re-entry program in which students released from juvenile detention would return to school through a restorative process.
Most recently, Christine served as Associate Director at a Restorative Justice Hub located in Back of the Yards, one of Chicago’s least funded neighborhoods. There, she managed a program in which victims and perpetrators of gun violence were approached and assisted by formerly incarcerated individuals, seeking to make the community safer by addressing unmet needs.
Christine has taught Restorative Justice courses at Northwestern Law, Governor State University, and North Park University and is currently teaching at Loyola School of Law. She continues to provide training and restorative mediation services for families, community organizations, and schools.
Christine graduated from Marquette Law in 2005 and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in 2001 with a BA in Communication and History.
