Dr. Brown Elected to Council at American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy

Dr. Kristina S. Brown, Ph.D., LMFT, was nominated and elected to the Elections Council of The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) for 2019-2021. AAMFT is an association representing the professional interests of more than 50,000 marriage and family therapists throughout the United States, Canada, and the world.

Dr. Brown is the Chair of the Couple and Family Therapy department and Interim Clinical Training Director. She specializes in therapy for couples and families, including LGBTQ couples and families, and identifies as a Medical Family Therapist providing therapy related to medical conditions, such as endometriosis and chronic illness.

Each year, marriage and family therapists (both clinicians and academics) are nominated for positions on the AAMFT Board of Directors, Elections Council, and the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) for roles that aim to continuously strengthen the association’s governance.

Dr. Brown’s responsibilities on the Elections Council will include learning about the open positions, recruiting candidates, and matching the qualifications of the candidates with the requirements of the open positions.

She believes that her new role will be beneficial for students, especially in terms of networking and career opportunities. “I am excited for our students to meet with other mental health practitioners and use this as a benefit to improve their careers,” she said.

The Adler University community congratulates Dr. Brown on her accomplishment and wishes her the best of luck during her term.
