Cherry Tolbert, M.A., a student in the Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy program, is active in the Adler Black Student Association and stays engaged in community work and advocacy on behalf of African Americans. For the November/December issue of Family Therapy Magazine published by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Tolbert wrote a letter to her fellow black therapists about the importance of coming together and checking in on each other.

"Creating a sense of community has always been one way that we as black Americans have maintained resilience,” Tolbert wrote. “Having the ability to validate and affirm each other's experiences during times of struggle, as well as success, makes me appreciate our cultural bond even more."
