Geoff Bathje, Ph.D., core faculty for the Adler University Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in Chicago, shared his views on integrating psychedelics into safe contexts in a Vox story.

Dr. Bathje emphasizes the importance of drug education in the general population and “making sure people understand the risks involved with psychedelics—how they can be misused, how people can be exploited when under the influence.” He shares how establishing harm reduction groups can help people process their psychedelic experiences in a safe way.

The focus is on organizing and “how we can reduce risks and do things safely,” Dr. Bathje said. “This is partly why the harm reduction movement can be useful in psychedelics.”
