Joseph E. Troiani, Ph.D., Director of the Master of Arts in Military Psychology program for Adler University’s Online Campus, spoke about inclusion in the military on WTTW-TV’s “Chicago Tonight” with retired Col. Jennifer Pritzker.

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed an amendment that would allow people to serve in the military regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation, including transgender people. Dr. Troiani is a retired Navy commander, while Col. Pritzker served in the military for almost 30 years. Both advocated for the inclusion of transgender people in the military, citing research on morale, mission, readiness, and performance.

“I think the important thing is bringing research literature to the policy makers so that they can make decisions,” said Dr. Troiani. “And the research basically supports the efficacy of having transgender men and women in the military.”
