Overview

Overview

I firmly believe and have routinely observed that students who enter into the academic environment bring with them diverse perspectives, curiosities, beliefs, and experiences that enhance their interactions with peers, faculty, and the clients they serve. I strive to foster and maintain an active learning environment that emphasizes curiosity, questioning, exploration, understanding, application, and overall integration of the material covered during class. I expect and model ethical behavior, cultural awareness/accountability, authenticity, and critical thinking regarding the subject matter we explore both in class and in other responsibilities included in the role.

It is humbling to serve in a profession that emphasizes the continuous improvement in the education and supervision of art therapy students. I plan on working collaboratively with my colleagues to provide the best educational experiences and professional training, while also working to continuously improve my own instructional practices.

A classroom that is designed to foster an interactive learning environment is one where students can engage in learning in a multitude of ways that adhere to accreditation standards and to impart the importance of continuing education within the field of counseling and art therapy even after graduation. To foster learning, I utilize various teaching strategies that are diverse and uniquely adaptable to students. Students will take part in discussions, engage in critical reflection, process relevant clinical case studies, participate in group work/presentations, and partake in artistic processing vital to the field of art therapy.

Adler University’s vision is aligned with my personal principles, teaching philosophy, and belief in supporting others as I advocate for social justice. I am humbled to guide and support the next generation of counselors and art therapists who will provide critical support to our community.
