Vancouver | Adjunct Faculty | Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.)
As a practising clinician and a proud graduate of the Psy.D program at Adler University, my teaching philosophy is grounded in collaboration, integration, and the application of theory to practical, real-world scenarios. I am committed to creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation, critical thinking, and the development of practical skills. My approach is heavily influenced by the principles of Adlerian psychology, which emphasize social interest, community feeling, and the holistic understanding of individuals within their social contexts. Having walked the same halls and experienced the same rigorous training as my students, I am uniquely positioned to guide them through their academic journey with empathy and insight.
My pedagogy is deeply rooted in Constructivist and Collaborative learning principles. In my classes, I focus on both lateral and horizontal transfer of knowledge with an emphasis on student-centered learning focusing on active participation. As a facilitator, I guide students through their learning process, employing scaffolding to support them as they develop new skills or understanding, gradually removing assistance as they become more competent. Collaborative learning techniques such as group work and peer teaching are also integral to my approach, encouraging students to work together to solve problems, complete tasks, and discuss concepts. This promotes social skills, deeper understanding, and reinforces knowledge through explanation and discussion, fostering a sense of community and gemeinschaftsgefühl.
Integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application is at the heart of my teaching. Clinical psychology bridges science and practice, and my courses reflect this dual nature. I provide students with a strong foundation in psychological theories and research while offering opportunities to apply this knowledge through hands-on experiences, such as case studies, role-playing exercises, and supervised practicum placements. Additionally, I incorporate social media as a tool for learning, using platforms like Instagram and TikTok to share relevant videos, facilitate discussions, and connect students with the global psychological community. My passion for Adlerian psychology and my own journey through this program drive my dedication to preparing students for successful careers psychology, ensuring they are not only knowledgeable but also empathetic and effective practitioners.
Adler University in Vancouver has been, like Canada itself, born and built with an open mind. Located in the midst of one of the world’s most exciting and breathtaking cities, Adler University reflects a true Canadian spirit. It’s smart, inclusive and determined to make a world of difference. By design, our Vancouver campus echoes the Adler values and intent down every hall and in every room. It is built to live, breathe and inspire those with the passion to pursue a more just society. This is where the work gets done.
At Adler Vancouver, you’ll find multiple collaborative areas with the absolute latest technology. Learning areas and windows have literally been situated to stimulate thought. To some, that may sound odd, but these things do matter. If students are given the space, opportunity and technology to achieve their goals, they are more likely to rock the boat of conventional thought.
