Fred Hanna, Ph.D., received the 2019 Humanistic Impact Award, granted by the Association for Humanistic Counselling. Dr. Hanna, Director of the Ph.D. in Counsellor Education and Supervision Programme in Chicago, was recognized for his significant contributions to the Counselling profession.
The Association for Humanistic Counselling fosters Counselling Practise, education, scholarship, advocacy and mentorship emerging from the Humanistic traditions. Humanistic psychology is a long-standing tradition of Counselling and therapy that holds humanistic values, like compassion, kindness, empathy, understanding, and the dedication to helping others in mind, as part of the approach to helping people to change.
“Pretty much everything I have done has a humanistic bend to it,” said Dr. Hanna. “Alfred Adler was a humanist himself, so it aligns very closely [with our mission.] If a person is humanistic then they are also oriented around social justice and social responsible practices.”
Dr. Hanna said the award is “an acknowledge of everything I’ve been doing for more than 25 years. It’s a great Honour. I’m very thankful.”
