The Adler University counselling psychology program in Vancouver, B.C., was named among the top 10 best by CourseCompare, Canada’s education resource that helps learners reach their career goals.
The University’s counselling psychology program was ranked No. 6 on the Best Master’s in Counselling Psychology in Canada of 2025 list, alongside the University of Alberta, the University of Toronto, and the University of British Columbia.
Adler University in Vancouver offers two counselling psychology programs that prepare community mental health counsellors and practitioners in Canada’s public and private sector: the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) with a thesis option and the Master of Counselling Psychology (MCP) without one.
In addition, Adler University in Vancouver offers the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology: School and Youth program with a thesis option and the Master of Counselling Psychology: School and Youth program, a non-thesis option.
“We prepare our students to best serve their clients,” said Asa-Sophia Maglio, Ph.D., MACP and MCP program director. “The results speak for themselves. We have alums working across Canada and at multi-levels of health care. They run and work in agencies, teach, supervise, and many have gone onto doctoral programs. We keep our fingers on the pulse of the profession, and we are not afraid to step out and do something different.”
“This recognition belongs to the faculty, staff, students, and alums,” Dr. Maglio said. “Our community is greater than the sum of its parts, and it is to this group that the recognition belongs.”
CourseCompare compiled the list by evaluating programs based on practicum hour requirements, accreditation with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and other provincial licensing bodies, graduation and employment rates, delivery methods, and program reputation among students, graduates, and employers.
Adler’s program is designed to prepare counselling professionals for work with individuals, families, and groups to address specific mental and emotional health challenges across a range of settings, including mental health centres, human service agencies, and private practice. The programs are designed to be completed in two years of full-time study.
Dr. Maglio said many factors make the University’s counselling psychology program unique, including its Social Justice Practicum, curriculum, focus on practice and excellence, and the dedicated faculty and staff.
“Those who are familiar with our legacy program in Vancouver — which as produced engaged counselling graduates since the late ‘70s — were not surprised to learn of this strong endorsement,” said Brad O’Hara, Ph.D., executive dean of the Vancouver Campus. “We’ve known for a long time that our Adlerian roots, highly capable and student-centered faculty, and strong community connections provide our students with an unmatched, demanding yet rewarding education that prepares them to be impactful mental health professionals.”
