James D. Halbert, Ph.D.
Program Director and Full Professor
Industrial Organizational Psychology
Online
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” -Proverbs 3:5-6.
Dr. Halbert has spent the past several years as a program director at Adler University, overseeing the Master of Arts in Industrial and Organizational Psychology program.
He has a strong interest in survey research, particularly in measuring mental stress and examining how it relates to other variables in the field. His additional research interests include pharmaceutical drugs, kidney disease, and the well-being of health care providers. His recent presentations have focused on burnout, interprofessional collaboration, resiliency, and social media–related health disparities.
Dr. Halbert also brings extensive experience in cardiovascular research, where he has examined how mental stress affects physiological functioning. In this work, he coordinated studies related to cardiovascular disease, including several music-based research projects. One study explored the use of music to reduce patient anxiety before surgery, while another investigated whether specific musical frequencies could help regulate hypertension.
He earned his Master of Science in General Psychology from Kaplan University and his Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Capella University. He completed his postdoctoral training in clinical research at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
