Program objectives

The CMHC faculty are committed to graduating competent and ethical professional counselors. As such, students will:

  • Embody a professional counselor’s identity with an in-depth understanding of the roles of Clinical Mental Health Counselors among interdisciplinary helping professions.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills through clinical practice and employ legal and ethical standards.
  • Embrace a mindset of cultural humility, including advocacy strategies and culturally responsive counseling practices within an Adlerian framework.
  • Apply counseling theories and modalities, evaluate and implement evidence-based practices, and utilize trauma-informed care across the developmental lifespan to create individual, group, and systemic change.
  • Cultivate professional dispositions that promote self-awareness and self-reflective practice that develops effective professional engagement with diverse clients in various clinical settings.
