OVERVIEW
A licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Cox is a professor in the Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology program and a long standing faculty member at Adler University. Originally from Argentina, Dr. Cox identifies as Latina and is bilingual. Her background is in child clinical psychology, bilingual/bicultural assessment, clinical supervision and diversity and inclusion. Dr. Cox is a former consultant to Migrant Head Start programs, various school districts, and several mental health centers and agencies serving Latine communities.
For over 18 years, Dr. Cox was also the Program Director for the Adler Juvenile Justice Internship program through a contractual collaboration between the University and the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice. In this role, she developed and oversaw an APA-accredited internship program, which was housed in a state juvenile correctional facility, providing essential mental health services to incarcerated youth while training clinicians to work effectively in this area of need.
In addition to teaching and advising students, Dr. Cox is engaged in several local and national organizations. She served as a delegate to the National Council of Schools and Programs in Professional Psychology and previously chaired its Ethnic and Racial Diversity Committee. In that capacity, she was part of the team who co-authored and helped navigate the adoption of our current Diversity Competency into our training model.
Dr. Cox has served in leadership positions on the board executive committees for the Illinois Psychological Association and the Interamerican Society of Psychology (SIP). She has been engaged in advocacy work through the APA State Leadership Conferences and in the successful prescriptive authority movement in Illinois and serving as a founding board member of IAPP. In addition to clinical and consulting work, Dr. Cox has taught doctoral students for many years in curriculum areas of individual and cultural diversity, child and adolescent treatment, and clinical supervision.
