Chicago | Chair, Department of Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.)

Cristina Cox, Ph.D.

I am currently the Chair of the Psychology Department and oversee the PsyD program. As a licensed clinical psychologist and bilingual/bicultural professional, my experience has focused on providing services in a variety of community mental health settings and deeply engaged with many Latinx communities.

In educating and training students to be future socially responsible psychologists, I encourage them to develop an awareness of the intersectionality of power structures and privilege. Developing cultural awareness, humility and dedication to social justice are critical elements in training future professionals and leaders to address our societal issues.

As a long-standing faculty member at Adler, I have been involved in teaching and training students in a variety of areas. My interests include clinical child psychology, and development and assessment. Additional areas of past research expertise include bilingual learning and assessment; Latinx mental health; and multicultural treatment models.

In my past role as Training Director for the Juvenile Justice Division of Adler Community Health Services, I was directly involved in providing clinical training for the internship program and overseeing this collaboration with the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) within a juvenile correctional setting.

Adler University’s social justice mission closely aligns with my commitment to fostering socially responsible practice.
